Daniil Tarasov has been plagued with injuries
Daniil Tarasov has been absent from the CBJ lineup all season, and they need him badly.
As much as we all like Spencer Martin, the reality is that he's not a potential starter, and that is what the Jackets need. Daniil Tarasov has been called "the future in net" for the Jackets for a few years now, he's just never had the chance to show it.
The plan for Tarasov last season was to play in 55-60 games for the Cleveland Monsters, but that didn't happen. Because of injuries to Elvis Merzlikins and Joonas Korpisalo, he was forced to be called up to Columbus. He played in only 17 games for the Blue Jackets. When he was able to play for Cleveland, he could manage to play in 11 games. 28 games is far from 60.
President of Hockey Operations John Davidson appeared on 97.1 The Fan's Rothman & Ice today on their "Hockey and Hounds" segment, and talked about his team, as well as gave an update on Daniil Tarasov.
Davidson says about Tarasov, "He's probably still 3 weeks away." Luckily for the Jackets, in the next 3 weeks, they don't play any back-to-backs. The next time they play two games in two nights would be November 26th & 27th. I would expect Elvis Merzlikins to play a ton of games in the next month. Davidson says they really like Spencer Martin, however, so expect him to get some of those starts to get Elvis some rest here and there.
