
1st Period
The first period saw Jake Bean give the Caps their first PP at 18:59 for tripping. The Jackets killed the Caps PP and allowed no shots. It was a perfect PK. Tom Wilson was awarded a penalty shot at 13:43, but Elvis Merzlikins turned it away with ease.
Tom Wilson scored at 12:21 of the first to make it 1-0. A few seconds later, Wilson gave the CBJ their first PP for tripping. The Caps killed off the PP and only gave up 2 shots.
Ex-Jacket Sonny Milano scored with 2:39 left to make it 2-0 Caps.
The Jackets controlled play most of the period, they just couldn't get any quality chances on Lindgren.

2nd Period
1:38 into the second period, Kirill Marchenko took a shot that was deflected by Dmitri Voronkov which made it 2-1. Marchenko and Jiricek got the assists. Voronkov now has 4 points in 5 games.
Most of the first half of the second period was back-and-forth action. It felt like the Jackets gave the puck away on every possession. The official count of giveaways with 4:47 left was 9 by the Jackets. They were having a really hard time getting the puck out of their defensive zone.
Jake Bean went back to the box for interference with 3:45 left. They kept giving the Caps chances in the second period. The Jackets did kill the Caps PP off, however. Elvis has bailed the team out big time in the second period. This game could be lopsided.
The Jackets were awarded a powerplay when John Carlson tripped Chinakhov with 34 seconds left in the period. They failed to score so it continued into the third.
CBJ 1, Caps 2 - Shots CBJ 8, Caps 14
3rd Period
The Jackets started the third with over a minute of powerplay time left on the clock. The Caps were able to kill it off to keep the score at 2-1. Elvis made a big save on Alex Ovechkin with 17:30 left. That shot was Ovi's first shot of the night.
With 13:55 left, Jake Bean went back to the box for tripping Washington's TJ Oshie, giving the Caps yet another PP. The Jackets were able to kill it off and didn't allow a shot. They have killed off 12 straight penalties.
The Jackets got a powerplay with 9:11 left in the third. The Caps killed it off. The Jackets were given another PP with four minutes left but again failed to score. The Powerplay was not good tonight but managed 7 shots on goal.
The Jackets pulled Merzlikins with 2:06 left but couldn't capitalize on being a man-up.
The Jackets fall to the Caps.
