Today, we talk about 12-year vet Brock Nelson.
Target: Brock Nelson - C- Age: 33 - 12 Years Experience
Brock Nelson had spent his entire career with the New York Islanders before being traded to the Colorado Avalanche on March 6, 2025. The Avs needed a veteran who could put in some goals and dish out some assists, and he did just that. The Islanders got a haul for him in the process.
Stats
Nelson played in 80 games last season for the Islanders and Avalanche. He scored 26 goals and 56 points, including 3 power-play goals. In his 12-year career, he has 301 goals and 587 points in 920 games. He has an 82-game average of 52 points.
Previous Salary
On May 23, 2019, Nelson signed a 6-year, $36,000,000 contract with the Islanders, with a cap hit of $6,000,000 per season. Contract experts put his next deal at around $6.7 million per season for three years.
Realistic Chances Of A Signing: Cold
Brock Nelson would bring a strong veteran presence to a young Blue Jacket locker room, there's no denying that. But, at his age, after spending 12 seasons with an Islanders team that never really came close to winning, Nelson will no doubt sign a short deal with a contender where he can try for a Stanley Cup.
Don Waddell should probably at least make the phone call, but I don't think there's any chance Nelson would consider Columbus at this time.
