This summer, Spencer Lazary and I will continue our series with more potential free agent targets that could be on the market on July 1st.
Today, we look at 10-year vet Connor Brown.
Target: Connor Brown - RW - Age: 31 - 10 Years Experience
Connor Brown was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 6th round of the 2012 NHL Draft. After playing two-plus seasons for Toronto, he was traded to the Ottawa Senators in 2019. In 2022, he was traded again, this time to the Washington Capitals. Brown then signed with the Edmonton Oilers in the summer of 2023, where he remains and is currently helping the Oilers try to win their first Stanley Cup in 35 years.
Stats
Brown played 82 games this past season, a feat he's accomplished four times in his career. He scored 13 goals and totaled 30 points. His goals included four game-winning goals, and a shorthanded goal. He's averaging 35 points per 82 games played for his career.
He has 54 playoff games under his belt. He has scored 8 goals and has 19 points in his playoff career. Five of those eight playoff goals have come in this playoff season, and eight of his 19 points have been this year as well.
Previous Salary
Brown signed a 1 year, $1,000,000 deal in the summer of 2024. Contract experts put his next deal at $2.9 million per season for three years.
Realistic Chances Of A Signing: Cold
Connor Brown would be a nice addition to the bottom six of the Blue Jackets' lineup. However, I can't see him wanting to leave the Edmonton Oilers anytime soon. Of course, the Oilers would need to want to sign him, and after the playoff season he's had thus far, it would be a good idea for them to keep him. Edmonton doesn't have much cap space and has to sign Evan Bouchard, who may take up a lot of that space.
But, if the Oilers can't sign him, Brown would most likely want to go to a team that is a strong contender for the Cup, and that's why I don't see him signing with a team like Columbus.
