This summer, Spencer Lazary and I will continue our series with more potential free agent targets that could be on the market on July 1st.

Today, we look at 15-year vet Jeff Skinner.

The Big Show

Target: Jeff Skinner - F - Age: 33 - 15 Years Experience

Jeff Skinner was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2010 NHL Draft as the 7th overall pick. He played the first eight years of his career in Raleigh before being traded to the Buffalo Sabres in August of 2018. He played six seasons in Western New York before leaving for Stanley Cup heavyweight Edmonton in the summer of '24 on a one-year deal.

Stats

Skinner played 72 games last season, scoring 16 goals and totaling 29 points. He only had two power play points and had a single game-winning goal. He's averaging 53 points per 82 games played for his career.

Until this playoff season, Skinner had never played a playoff game in his career. He played in the first game of the round one series against the Kings, but was scratched every game until he was inserted back into the lineup in the series clinching game against the Stars due to injury. He scored a goal and has an assist in that game.

Previous Salary

Skinner signed a one-year, $3 million dollar contract on July 1 of 2024 with Edmonton. Contract experts put his next deal in the area of $2.5 million for one season.

Realistic Chances Of A Signing: Cold as Edmonton winters

There's absolutely zero chance Skinner comes to Columbus, Ohio this free agency period. My best guess is that he either stays in Edmonton, or goes to another cup contender, but there's likely zero chance he goes to a team that isn't close to the playoffs.
