A total of 6 players have jersey #22 since the start of the franchise

The Columbus Blue Jackets have had many players don the Union Blue in its history. The #22 has only been worn a handful of times though.  

Let's look at the players that have worn the number.

Who Wore It First?

  • Chris Nielsen - Nielson played 52 games with the Jackets over the first two years of their existence and totaled 14 points. He would never play another NHL game and finished his career in Germany in 2006.

Who Wore It Last?

  • Jake Bean - Bean played 153 games for the CBJ after being traded from Carolina in 2021. The former 13th overall pick in 2016 wasn't offered a contract this summer and moved on to Calgary. 

Who Wore It Best?

  • Václav "Vinny" Prospal - Prospal played 130 games for the Jackets over two seasons. He scored 28 goals and totaled 85 points over that span. The veteran of 1108 NHL games would never play another NHL game after the 12-13 season. In 2019 he would play four games in Czechia.

Others That Have Worn #22

  • Luke Richardson - Richardson was the Captain for Columbus for two seasons before being traded back to Toronto on March 8, 2006. He played 190 games for the CBJ, scoring two goals and totaling 26 points. He retired in 2008 and is currently the head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks. 
  • Mike Commodore - Commodore played 158 games for Columbus and had 41 points. He finished his career playing one season in the KHL in 2014. 
  • Sonny Milano - Milano played 116 games in Union Blue throughout five seasons. He had 20 goals and 42 points in his Jackets career before being traded to the Anaheim Ducks. He spent most of his career with the Columbus organization playing in the AHL. He played in 163 games and had 112 points for Springfield and Cleveland.
