39 Days Until Opening Night At Nationwide Arena: The History Of Jersey #39

The Columbus Blue Jackets have had a lot of players don the Union Blue in its history. But only a handful have worn 39.

Let's look at the players that have worn the number.

Who Wore It First?

  • Mike Pandolfo - Played three games for Columbus during the 2003-04 season. He had 0 points and averaged 8:18 of ice time. The 1998 Buffalo draft pick never played another NHL game after those three games.

Who Wore It Last?

  • Tyler Angle - Played in four career games for Columbus over the last two seasons. He had one career point. Two weeks ago he signed in Germany to continue his career.

Who Wore It Best?

  • Michael Chaput - Chaput played 58 games for the Jackets over three seasons. He scored 2 goals and totaled 8 points. He last played in the NHL during the 2020-21 season for Arizona. He played in the KHL in 2022-23.

Others That Have Worn #39

  • Greg Moore - He played in four games for Columbus during the 2009-10 season. He wasn't able to earn any points and only played 6 minutes a game. He never played another NHL game after his stint in Columbus. He last played in Germany in 2014-15.
  • Steve Goertzen - Played 46 games throughout two seasons for Columbus from 2005 to 2007. He failed to register a point and only played eight minutes a game. He last played in the NHL during the 2009-10 season for the Carolina Hurricanes. He played in the Elite Ice Hockey League in England in 2014-15 to finish his career.

In 39 days, the Jackets will host the Florida Panthers on October 15th, and somehow the team will need to rally around each other after the sad passing of Johnny Gaudreau. Getting back to playing hockey is what Johnny would want his teammates to do, and they'll need to do exactly that.
