The Columbus Blue Jackets have 51 days until opening night at Nationwide Arena. Today we look at the history of jersey #51. There weren`t many that used the number, but at least one had a pretty good career.
Let's take a look.
Andrew Delmore - 2006-07 Season - Undrafted out of LaSalle, Ontario, Delmore spent most of his career in the NHL before being claimed off of waivers by Columbus on October 4th, 2005, from the Detroit Red Wings.
Demore would only play 7 games for the Jackets during that season, with the majority of his time being spent with the AHLs Syracuse Crunch, where he played 66 games. He would gain zero points in 7 games with Columbus.
In 2007 he left for Europe but would return after two seasons. After spending 2009-10 in the AHL, he again returned to Europe where he would play until his retirement after the end of the 2012–13 season.
Delmore spent the 24-25 season as a development coach for the Chicago Blackhawks.
Andy Murray - 2007-11 - Murray was drafted in the 8th round of the 2001 NHL draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets as a Center.
After playing four years at Bemidji State University, Murray turned pro and played for the Syracuse Crunch for two seasons before making his NHL Debut during the 2007-08 season. In his rookie year, he played in 39 games and totaled 10 points.
He played three more seasons in Columbus and played in 181 games. He would score 23 goals and total 36 points during his time with the CBJ.
He would leave the Jackets in free agency in 2011 and play for the San Jose Sharks and St. Louis Blues, but he wouldn't get much playing time.
He left North America in 2013 and headed for Europe. He played two seasons in the KHL for a team in Croatia, but after that, he wouldn't play professional hockey again.
Fedor Tyutin - 2008-16 - Tyutin was drafted by the New York Rangers in 2001. He would play four seasons with the Rangers, before on July 2, 2008, he, along with Christian Bäckman was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Nikolai Zherdev and Dan Fritsche.
Tyutin would go on to play 553 games for the CBJ during his 8-year career. He would score 39 goals and total 185 points during his tenure on the Blue Jackets blue line.
Tyutin ranks 5th all-time by games played by a defenseman, ranking behind the likes of Werenski, Jones, Klesla, and Savard. His 39 goals are also 5th, behind the same players above, and his 146 assists and 3rd behind Werenski and Jones. Tyutin's 185 points also rank third behind Werenski and Jones, and there is no active Blue Jacket defenseman even close to passing him.
Tyutin would leave for Colorado in free agency in 2016, where he would play in 69 games for the Avs. He would retire after that season.
In September of 2017, Fedor Tyutin would come back to Columbus and join the scouting staff and was a pro scout until 2019. He's spent the last six years coaching different levels of the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets.
Fedor Tyutin is regarded as one of the best defensemen to ever suit up for the Columbus Blue Jackets.
