What should the Blue Jackets expect from Emil Andrae this season?
The Columbus Blue Jackets added multiple new players in their major blockbuster trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
One of the Blue Jackets' newcomers is defenseman Emil Andrae. Due to this, let's take a look at the left-shot defenseman with the 2026-27 season just about here.
Emil Andrae Looking To Break Out With The Blue Jackets
While Knies is the big piece that the Blue Jackets acquired from the Maple Leafs, Andrae should not be ignored. The 24-year-old defenseman has shown promise early on in his career, and it is fair to wonder if he can hit a new level with Columbus because of it.
Andrae spent last season with the Philadelphia Flyers, where he posted two goals, 11 assists, 13 points, and a plus-15 rating in 61 games. This was after he had one goal and seven points in 42 games with Philadelphia in 2024-25. With this, he took a bit of a step forward in his development last season and will be aiming to do so again as a Blue Jacket in 2026-27.
If Andrae can hit a new level this season, it would be very good news for the Blue Jackets. When noting that he is only 24 years old and just 107 games into his NHL career, he certainly has the potential to break out. It will be intriguing to see if he can do just that for Columbus this season from here.
