The Captain is back.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated multiple players off of IR today. Boone Jenner and Kirill Marchenko have been taken off of IR, and defenseman Dante Fabbro is also available. Fabbro has missed the last 3-plus games due to a concussion suffered when he took an elbow to the face by the Stars' Mason Marchment.
The 31-year-old Jenner from Dorchester, Ontario, has yet to play a game after undergoing surgery just before the season started. He suffered the injury in training camp when he crashed into the boards.
He traveled with the team a few weeks ago and has been skating and getting ready for a few weeks now.
The closest Jenner has come to playing a full season was the COVID shutdown year of 19-20, when he played 70 games.
Getting Jenner back is going to mean the world to this team. Even if he doesn't contribute to the score sheet, just having his presence on the ice is big for a team that’s struggling to keep players healthy at the moment.
Kirill Marchenko is back after suffering a broken jaw in the game against the Stars back on February 2nd, the same game that Dante Fabbro was injured in. One of his teammates attempted to clear a puck when he was struck on the bench, breaking his jaw. Marchenko had surgery on his jaw and now has a special bubble to wear to protect his face as he continues to recover. Getting the surgery is allowing him to come back a lot sooner than most expected. Had he got his jaw wired shut, he would’ve missed much more time.
Welcome back to Captain Boone Jenner, Kirill Marchenko, and Dante Fabbro. The Jackets are going to need them all to contribute right away if they plan on making a push towards the playoffs.
The team also announced that forwards Kevin Labanc and Owen Sillinger will miss the rest of the season. Labanc had shoulder surgery and will miss the remainder of the year.

Sillinger suffered a lower-body injury on Feb. 11th.
This is a tough blow to Kevin Labanc
