The Columbus Blue Jackets defender was in Vail, Colorado to undergo the surgery.

The Columbus Blue Jackets announced today that defenseman Erik Gudbranson's shoulder surgery that was performed yesterday was successful.

He was injured against the Florida Panthers on October 15th.

GM Don Waddell said via a press release, “Erik had successful shoulder surgery on Monday and is expected to make a full recovery." “While he will miss a significant amount of time, we know he will work extremely hard during his rehab and will continue to be an important part of our leadership group.”

Most NHL players who have shoulder surgery miss 4 to 5 months. So, theoretically, he could return later in the year.

Captain Boone Jenner had his surgery a couple of weeks ago with the same surgeon.

What's Next - Columbus is back home on Tuesday and will host the Toronto Maple Leafs.
