
The Blue Jackets have announced that they have hired former Minnesota Wild head coach Dean Evason to be the team's 11th full-time head coach. This is the team's fourth head coaching hire since 2021.
Evason was hired by the Wild on February 14, 2020, on an interim basis, but was later hired as the permanent head coach on July 13, 2020. He coached the Wild until he was let go on November 27, 2023, after starting 5–10–4. Evason took his Wild teams to the playoffs four times, losing in the qualifying round in 2020 and the first round in the following three seasons.
Dean Evason - NHL - 147-77-27 - 251 Games with the Minnesota Wild. Four playoff appearances. 456 games in the AHL including four playoff appearances. He also has coached 432 games in the WHL with six playoff appearances.
Don Waddell said in a press release, “He has spent well over two decades in this league as a player, assistant coach, and head coach and I believe that experience, combined with the outstanding person he is, will allow Dean to get the best out of our players and put us in a position to succeed as a team.”
