Could Boone Jenner end up signing with this Pacific Division club?
With July 1 almost here, Columbus Blue Jackets captain Boone Jenner remains without a new contract. If this does not change shortly, Jenner will end up hitting the free agent market later this week.
If Jenner ends up testing free agency, which is likely, he will generate a lot of interest. This is because he is the best center of this year's unrestricted free agents (UFAs). Because of this, it would be understandable if he wanted to see what offers are out there on the free agent market.
In a recent article for The Score, Josh Wegman predicted that Jenner would end up leaving the Blue Jackets and signing a four-year contract, $22 million ($5.5 million AAV) contract with the Los Angeles Kings.
With the Kings losing Anze Kopitar to retirement, it would make a lot of sense if they targeted Jenner. They need to improve at the center position, and with Jenner being the top center of this year's free agency class, it would be understandable if the Kings made a push for him.
If the Kings signed Jenner, he could slot well as their second-line or third-line center. He would also give Los Angeles a clear option for both their power play and penalty kill because of his solid two-way play.
It will be interesting to see if Jenner ends up leaving the Blue Jackets for the Kings. It would take some time to get used to seeing Jenner on a different team, as he has spent the entirety of his 13-year career with the Blue Jackets.
