The Columbus Blue Jackets made another notable move on Thursday, signing forward Cole Sillinger to a three-year, $13.875 million contract. Starting next season, the 2021 first-round pick will have a $4.625 million AAV. 

Since immediately making the jump to the NHL after being drafted by the Blue Jackets, Sillinger has been a solid part of their forward group. In 367 career games over five seasons, the 6-foot forward has posted 51 goals, 89 assists, 140 points, and 508 hits. This included him posting eight goals and setting a new career-high with 25 assists during this past season with the Blue Jackets.  

Yet, when noting that Sillinger is still just 23 years old, it is fair to wonder if he has not hit his ceiling yet. The possibility of him hitting a new level offensively for the Blue Jackets next season should not be ruled out. If he can produce more offense and grow his two-way game, it would be great for a Blue Jackets club that is looking to be a playoff team in 2026-27. 

It will be interesting to see what kind of campaign Sillinger can put together for the Blue Jackets next season from here.
