The Columbus Blue Jackets didn't win the Jacob Trouba sweepstakes. However, this whole situation and the involvement of the Blue Jackets for high-end talent comes with a silver lining.
The Blue Jackets brought Don Waddell in as their GM for a reason because he is hungry to win. That is apparent with them being one of the front-runners for a big-named blue liner like Trouba.
Yes, it sucks that Columbus didn't land him and the Anaheim Ducks did. However, it is clear that the organization sees the team nearing the end of the rebuild and is going to start putting their name in bigger sweepstakes.
If you consider how much draft capital the Blue Jackets have, they may be willing to move some of that out to bring in other talent.
There still are a handful of great players that could be dealt, such as Mika Zibanejad or Chris Kreider from the New York Rangers or Brock Nelson from the New York Islanders.
It is trending towards an exciting time to be a Blue Jackets fan.
