The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced the hiring of Don Waddell today. He will serve as the President of Hockey Operations, General Manager and alternate governor. The deal is a multi-year contract.
Waddell spent the last six seasons as the Carolina Hurricanes President and General Manager before deciding it was time to step down.
With the appointment of Waddell to President of Hockey Ops, John Davidson will be moving on to senior advisor and alternate governor.
Leading up to the hiring of Waddell, speculation was running wild about who the Jackets wanted to lead their front office. But as the playoffs continued on, and they hadn't hired anyone, a few insiders brought up the name Ken Holland, and also mentioned that the Habs Jeff Gorton hadn't been given permission to interview. Some people believe that Waddell will hire Holland to be the general Manager.
The new edition of the Columbus Blue Jackets is taking shape.
