The Blue Jackets erased a third period deficit to beat Carolina

Kirill Marchenko(15,16) and Dmitri Voronkov(13) scored the goals for the Blue Jackets, and Elvis Merzļikins was able to stop 32 of 35 Carolina shots in a 4-3 shootout win for Columbus.

Elvis Merzļikins played very well in the win and allowed just one shooter to score in the shootout. For Columbus, Kent Johnson and Adam Fantilli beat Hurricane goalie Pyotr Kochetkov to send Carolina home with just one point.

Rookie defenseman Denton Mateychuk assisted on Kirill Marchenko's first goal to record his first NHL point. The youngster played 13:56 and had a single shot on goal against Carolina.

The Blue Jackets improved to 12-4-3 at home with the win. They also now have 38 points, sit with a record of 16-16-6, and are two points out of the wildcard spot. Their 12 wins at home are tied for second-best in the Metro, and third-best in the Eastern Conference.

Who would've ever thought that on January 1st, 2025 the Blue Jackets would be knocking on the door to the playoffs? There are lots of games to play, and they need to get the road games figured out, but this has been fun to watch.
