The Blue Jackets have placed one of their blueliners on waivers.
The Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Philadelphia Flyers in overtime by a 4-3 final score on Tuesday night.
While the Blue Jackets blew a 3-0 lead, they redeemed themselves by getting two points thanks to Kent Johnson's overtime winner.
Now, after defeating the Flyers, the Blue Jackets have waived one of their defenseman.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Blue Jackets have placed defenseman Carson Soucy on waivers.
Soucy signed a one-year, $1.15 million contract with the Blue Jackets ahead of the 2026-27 season. This was after he joined the Blue Jackets at their training camp on a professional tryout (PTO) agreement. Now, with this news, he is available for the taking on waivers.
If Soucy passes through waivers unclaimed, the Blue Jackets will be able to assign him to their AHL affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters. However, the possibility of him getting claimed by another team should not be ruled out. He has a good amount of NHL experience and could be a decent depth pickup for an NHL club that is dealing with injury trouble.
Soucy has appeared in seven games this season with the Blue Jackets, where he has recorded one assist, 17 hits, and a minus-5 rating. This is after he had five goals, 12 points, and 105 hits in 76 games split between the New York Rangers and New York Islanders last season.
