Columbus Blue Jackets' forward Sean Monahan has been nominated for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for the 2024-25 season.

The award is given annually to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey.

It’s no secret that Monahan has overcome some of the greatest hardships over the past year with the loss of his best friend, Johnny Gaudreau.

He was nominated by the Columbus chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association. Alongside 31 other nominees, the association will narrow the list down to three finalists before selecting a winner in the final round of voting.

Monahan is likely the favorite to win this award — and rightfully so. He has overcome one of life’s most difficult challenges.
