The Columbus Blue Jackets should target Gustav Nyquist from the Nashville Predators to help the team's core with secondary scoring.
Nyquist, 35, was a part of Columbus' organization for three seasons from 2019-23 before being traded to the Minnesota Wild at the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline. During his time with the Blue Jackets, he appeared in 200 games and recorded 43 goals and 74 assists for 117 points.
The reunion between the two parties would make a ton of sense. His leadership would also benefit the younger players on their roster, like Adam Fantilli and Kent Johnson.
Nashville tried to go all-in this off-season by signing Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault, and Brady Skjei. However, things haven't gone as planned, and if the Predators keep going down this path, GM Barry Trotz will be looking to make changes.
If that does happen, the Blue Jackets need to come calling and look to re-acquire Nyquist. Especially with the hardships that the team has had to endure this season, they could use a few extra veterans around the locker during the dog days of the season.
