Well, it finally happened. After approximately 183 minutes, the Columbus Blue Jackets scored an NHL goal. In a strange twist, Mathieu Olivier is the one who scored the last goal against the Devils last Tuesday and scored the lone goal against the Devils on Monday. It is his 16th goal of the season.
Unfortunately for the Blue Jackets, Jake Allen turned into Martin Brodeur and stopped 45 Columbus shots, including a whopping 24 in the third period alone. The Jackets had 50 shot attempts in the third period, but the snake-bitten Blue Jackets could only solve Allen one time.
Young netminder Jet Greaves played well enough to win on Monday night. One bad bounce off of the boards quickly ended up in Greaves' net off of Jesper Bratt's stick, which ended up being the game-winner.
All in all, the Jackets didn't play terribly at all, they just can't score.
Dean Evason said after the game, "Do we believe that this is the turning point? Do we believe this is one that, not only the period, the game that turns us around and we’re ready to go forward? Yeah, 100 percent."
Evason on Jet Greaves - "We watched it. It hits a seam on the yellow. Yeah, had nothing to do with Jet. He played great. He played great. Everybody did. We just didn't get the result."
Jet Greaves said the puck took a weird bounce off the wall, "but at the end of the day, it's my job to stop it and keep the puck out of the net. It's too bad, but it's part of the game. Bounces happen either way. You just have to handle them and respond and keep going."
