Zach Werenski scored his 3rd goal of the season 3:32 into the game. Johnny Gaudreau took a slapper from around 10 feet out that hit Ducks goalie Gibson, which then hit off of Werenski and bounced in. Puck luck early in the game is a good thing. Johnny Gaudreau scored his 8th goal of the season with 9:32 left to put the Jackets up 2-0. The game is being controlled by Anaheim to this point, but the CBJ are the ones taking advantage of their chances. Columbus would get their first power play of the night when Cam Fowler went off for cross-checking against Kent Johnson. The Ducks would kill it off with no issues. Zach Werenski would get his second of the game from behind the net with 90 seconds left when he snuck one past John Gibson who wasn't covering the post and was off-balance.
Sean Kuraly made the game 4-0 three minutes into the second when he took a feed from Alex Texier who stole the puck on a failed clearing attempt from John Gibson. Kuraly was camped in front of Gibson who buried it. The Ducks Troy Terry beat Daniil Tarasov with a wicked shot to make the score 4-1. Tarasov looked out of sorts on that shot. Cole Sillinger went off for holding Jakob Silfverberg with seven minutes left to give the Ducks their first power play of the game. The Jackets would kill it off and have now killed off the last 36 power play tries by Anaheim in the series between the two teams. Daniil Tarasov would give up the game's second goal to make the score 4-2 CBJ. Mason McTavish was the goal scorer. Tarasov was struck in the face by Adam Boqvist's stick and immediately left the ice in pain. Elvis Merzlikins would enter the game with a 4-2 lead. With 2:24 left in the second, Boone Jenner would go to the box for tripping Ross Johnston. This second period has been terrible for the Jackets. Mason McTavish would score again to make it 4-3 while the two teams were playing 4 on 4. Alex Killorn would score to tie the game at 4 with 23 seconds left. The Blue Jacket collapse is complete.
Daniil Tarasov would come back into the game to start the third period after leaving the second period due to injury. Yegor Chinakhov took a pass from Johnny Gaudreau on a 3 on 2 breakaway and would bury his 15th goal of the season. Chinakhov left the game just a few minutes earlier in some discomfort after taking a fall into the end boards. Sean Kuraly scored his second goal of the game just 49 seconds after Chinakhov's to make it 6-4 Jackets. Erik Gudbranson gave the Ducks another power play try with 4:41 to play after sending the puck over the glass. The CBJ would kill it but would go right back on the kill after Jack Roslovic took a high-sticking call. Boone Jenner would ice the game with his 18th goal of the season when he scored on John Gibson's empty net. The Jackets win 7-4.
Daniil Tarasov played very well in this game.
