Will Columbus Blue Jackets forward Kent Johnson turn things around next season?
The 2025-26 season was a tough year for Columbus Blue Jackets forward Kent Johnson. In 76 games with the Metropolitan Division club, he posted just seven goals and 22 points. He was also healthy scratched multiple times during the season.
Yet, when looking at Johnson's past seasons, it is clear that he has the potential to bounce back in 2026-27. Just back during the 2024-25 season with the Blue Jackets, he set career highs with 24 goals, 33 assists, and 57 points in 68 games. If he can get back to this kind of production next season, it would be significant for a Blue Jackets club that is looking to be a playoff team.
Given how last season went for Johnson, it is clear that the 2026-27 campaign is a big year for him. The 2021 fifth-overall pick will be looking to prove that he can be an impactful top-six forward for Columbus.
It will be very interesting to see what kind of year Johnson can have for the Blue Jackets next season. With the Blue Jackets losing forwards like Boone Jenner and Mason Marchment this off-season, they need a promising youngster like Johnson to regain his top form.
