Cannon City Quotables: Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Carolina Hurricanes

Last night, Cole Sillinger, Erik Gudbranson, and Alex Nylander spoke to the media postgame. HC Pascal Vincent also gave his thoughts on the game.

Cole Sillinger - 1g - 3 shots - 17:05 TOI - 40.0% Faceoffs

  • They're a fast team, they play hard, they play simple. Kind of almost a boring style of game.
  • I thought we did a pretty good job making our own game out of it and making plays. Not feeding into what they wanted to do.
  • Throw pucks on net and good things happen and, unfortunately, they got a couple lucky bounces.
  • On Nylander: He's a guy that likes to play the puck, plays hard, really good edges, and sees the ice very well. So, I like playing with him. Happy for him that he got his first as a Blue Jacket.

Alex Nylander - 1g, 1a - 4 shots - 19:40 TOI

  • They compete really hard all the way from the first line to the fourth line.
  • On his goal: I was kind of between a shot and a pass, and then I just decided to shoot it. I got lucky and it went in.
  • We just got to play simple.
  • On getting more minutes: It's awesome! I think we had good looks. I was fortunate enough to get one there. Getting the opportunity here and I just got to be ready and ready to take it. I just got to keep working hard every day here.
  • On chemistry with Cole Sillinger: We've been talking a lot off the ice, and I think that's just helped us on the ice. We're getting better and better every game.
  • On his first goal as a Blue Jacket: It was a great feeling. Obviously, we wanted to win the game, but it felt really good.

Erik Gudbranson - +1 - 20:12 TOI

  • On Carolina: They're just workhorses, every single one of them. You're constantly under pressure. I think they're the best in the league at playing that simple, direct game that we talk about.
  • We did so well in the first, that we kind of stepped off the gas pedal a little bit and started trying to make plays that can slow down momentum.
  • I think we had our chances. Spencer played a great game over there.

Head Coach Pascal Vincent

  • When you look at their lineup, the two words that come very often is that they skate and they complete.
  • On Sillinger/Nylander/Texier Line: They had a good game. Nylander is playing really well for us. Cole Sillinger again, had a strong game and I thought Texier was moving and competing hard. I like that line.
  • A few times we were looking for the next play instead of shooting the puck. When you have a chance to shoot it, you shoot it.
  • On Chinakhov not playing in the third: Turnovers.

What's Next - The Blue Jackets will be in Chicago on Saturday night to battle the Blackhawks.
