Columbus Avoids The Dreaded Third Period Collapse, Instead Falls Apart In The First And Can't Recover

For the first 5 minutes, the game was controlled by Seattle. The Jackets had very little O-Zone time and the Kraken had a few good scoring chances. After 10 minutes both teams could only muster 4 shots each. The Jackets had 9 blocked shots, however. The Kraken got their first power play with 8:08 left in the first when Dmitri Voronkov went off for holding. Jordan Eberle scored on the man advantage to make it 1-0. Jared McCann made it 2-0 when he smoked a wrister past Daniil Tarasov. Boone Jenner went to the box for hooking with 2:15 left and was immediately scored on making it 3-0 when Jordan Eberle scored his second of the night. The first period was a disaster and ended 3-0 Kraken.

The second period was uneventful until Brandon Tanev was called for high-sticking. Upon further review, it was decided that Justin Danforth's teammate actually hit him with his stick, so the penalty came off the board. The Jackets didn't record their first shot in the second period until the 12th minute, it's literally been all Kraken. Adam Fantilli left the game after what appeared to be a skate issue but ended up being an injury according to Jody Shelley of Bally Sports.

The Jackets were awarded their first power play at 14:16 when Vince Dunn went off for slashing. It was almost immediately nullified when Zach Werenski went off for slashing after Brandon Tanev had a bit of a one-man break. The Kraken had a brief power play that the Jackets would kill. The 2nd period would end 3-0 Kraken.

To start the third, CBJ PR said in a tweet that "Adam Fantilli suffered a lower-body injury" and wouldn't return to the game.

The Jackets got a power play when Matty Beniers went off for hooking Boone Jenner. The Kraken killed it off with no real threat by the Jackets. The CBJ would get on the board at 7:12 when Yegor Chinakhov scored his 13th of the season, assisted by Johnny Gaudreau and Damon Severson. Yegor Chinakhov would score again to make it 3-2 with 4:00 left in the game. Unfortunately, that's all Columbus could come up with. The Jackets pulled Tarasov with a little over 2 minutes left but Brandon Tanev ended it with an empty net goal.

    Jackets lose 4-2.

After the 1st period, Daniil Tarasov and the Jackets played halfway decent, they just couldn't score early enough and instead had to scramble late to try to tie it.
