The Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Boston Bruins on Monday night at TD Garden to break a seven-game losing streak on the road.
Dmitri Voronkov(3), Mathieu Olivier(6 SHG), James van Riemsdyk(3), Justin Danforth(3 SHG), and Yegor Chinakhov(5) provided the offense, and Elvis Merzļikins was spectacular in the 5-1 CBJ win.
The story of this game was the Jackets penalty killers. Mathieu Olivier and Justin Danforth scored a short-handed goal each and limited the Bruins to just five shots on six power plays. Needless to say, the PK played really well. The Blue Jackets PK outscored the Bruins last night on their own.
Elvis Merzļikins was also on his game last night. He made some unreal saves to keep the game out of reach for Boston. When he is playing calm and collected, the team in front of him usually plays well - That's a good thing. Merzļikins is now 4-5 with a save % of .905. His .905% is above the league average of .901%.
This marks the Jackets' first regulation win in Boston since Feb 22, 2016.
The "Donkey of the Day" was Mathieu Olivier.
