Columbus goalie prospect Nolan Lalonde was traded to his hometown team yesterday. The trade sends Lalonde from the Memorial Cup Champion Saginaw Spirit to the Kingston Frontenacs. Saginaw receives a 15th-round pick in 2026.
Kingston's GM Cooper says about Lalonde, “I’ve known Nolan for a long time, and he has outstanding leadership qualities. The bonus is being able to bring in a local player that loves our city and is already involved in our community. Getting Nolan is a win for us both on and off the ice.”
Lalonde, who also played for the Erie Otters last season, went a combined 21-8-1. He also played in 12 playoff games and went 5-7.
It sounds like Lalonde will be returning to juniors for one more season. He'll be 21 when next season ends, and although he has signed his ELC, it hasn't kicked and he is slide-eligible for another season.
Back on June 3rd, THN Columbus wrote about Lalonde and whether or not he would turn pro following Saginaw's seasons, it seems that question has been answered - for now.
Things can always change, but the Kingston native looks to be returning to his hometown team to try to get them back to the playoffs.
