Columbus Signs Forward Sean Monahan To A 5-year Contract

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed veteran forward Sean Monahan to a 5-year contract today with $5.5 million AAV. The deal is for $27.5 million in total.
Monahan brings 11 years of experience to the CBJ. For the Calgary Flames, Montreal Canadiens, and Winnipeg Jets, he's played in 764 games. He's scored 244 goals and totaled 538 points for a points % of .70.
Many people think this is a bit of an overpayment for Monahan. He's only played in 108 games in the past two seasons but has 76 points. Last season he did play in 83 games however. The last thing the Blue Jackets need is more injuries.
Could bringing in Monahan signal that Waddell has other moves in mind? It's very possible since they still have Sean Kuraly and Boone Jenner on the roster.
