As per our report before the 2025 NHL playoffs kicked off, David Savard has officially called it a career.

Savard had talked about retiring at the end of the season, regardless of how the playoff run went. Last night, the Montreal Canadiens’ playoffs came to an end when they were beaten by the Washington Capitals in five games.

At the end of the game, the Canadiens players stayed on the ice to honour Savard, who deserves it after the career he’s had.

Savard, 34, was a fourth-round pick by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2009. He spent 10 seasons with the team before being dealt to Tampa Bay in 2021.

During his time with the Blue Jackets, he played 597 games and recorded 41 goals and 125 assists for 166 points. In total, he played 870 NHL games and tallied 56 goals and 186 assists for 242 points.

After being traded to the Lightning, he went on to win his first and only Stanley Cup. He then signed with his hometown Canadiens and spent the rest of his career with the team he grew up cheering for.

Congratulations, Savard. Enjoy retirement.
