Former Blue Jackets Head Coach Brad Larsen Hired By The Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames announced the hiring of former CBJ Head Coach Brad Larsen on Tuesday.

Larsen has been a coach in some capacity since 2010. He started as an assistant for the AHL's Springfield Falcons in 2010 and was promoted to Head Coach in 2012. In 2014, he was hired as an assistant coach for the Blue Jackets, where he would be in that position for seven years. In June of 2021, he was promoted to the head coaching role, where he would spend the next two years. He was fired on April 15th, 2023 after failing to reach the playoffs for two straight seasons.

Brad Larsen also played in 294 NHL games, scoring 19 goals and totaling 48 points. He played for the Colorado Avalanche and the Atlanta Thrashers. When he played for the Thrashers, he played for new CBJ GM Don Waddell.

Larsen catches a lot of flack for his time in Columbus, but by all accounts, he's a great man and coach. He deserves another shot in the NHL.
