Former Columbus Blue Jackets draft pick Robbie Stucker has become an unrestricted free agent. Stucker was chosen 210th overall in 2017 but was never able to get an offer from the Jackets.
Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL and the NHLPA, every year on August 15th, certain players (if parameters are met) become unrestricted free agents at 5 pm ET. If a college-drafted player has not received a bona fide offer, and graduates from a four-year university, that player will have the freedom of pursuing a different organization via unrestricted free agency.
Stucker is currently signed to play in the ECHL for the Iowa Heartlanders for the 2023-24 season. He played three seasons with the University of Minnesota from 2018 to 2021. The defenseman had two goals and 16 total points in three seasons. In 2021, he transferred to the University of Vermont, where he would play for two seasons, scoring seven goals and 29 points.
After his second season with Vermont, Stucker would turn pro and play for the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL. He played in 10 games scoring one goal and had seven points.
