One of the most electrifying players of the 1990s, Sergei Fedorov was still capturing the imagination of hockey fans everywhere once the calendar flipped over to the 2000s. But the Detroit Red Wings center was also at a crossroads in his career when he sat down with writer Jonathan Davis for this 1-on-1 interview at Fedorov’s Michigan pad.
First and foremost, Fedorov had motorcycles inside his house, a mini-disco in the basement, and a Formula 1 racing simulator. But he also had answers for why he’d recently switched player agents as well as claiming that he and tennis queen Anna Kournikova had been secretly married at one point.
Fedorov had positive reflections on what he’d accomplished on the ice and believed there was still more to come: “I’ve won Stanley Cups. I’d like to win more, and I feel I have five or six more great years ahead of me and a chance to win a few more championships before I say goodbye to the game.” Months later, he left Detroit for Anaheim before stops in Columbus and Washington. He made the playoffs twice more, but no more Cups.
