Veteran leadership and a team-first attitude make Boone Jenner a prime target for Stanley Cup contenders seeking an edge at the 2026 trade deadline.

According to NHL insider David Pagnotta, Columbus Blue Jackets' captain Boone Jenner could be a sought-after target this season.

In a recent auricle, he reported that much like Brayden Schenn, Ryan O'Reilly and Jenner are all veteran forwards that teams could inquire about depending on how their teams are doing by then.

    Pagnotta had this to say:

“He’s a UFA at the end of the season, he’s got a sweetheart of a cap it. Ridiculously great guy in the room, glue kind in a player and that energy force that Stanley Cup teams are going to want come trade deadline,” he said. “If there’s no extension by or after the Olympics, or even sooner, depending on how aggressive some teams want to get and depending on where Columbus is in the standings, there are gonna be a lot of teams that are gonna line up to try to pluck Boone Jenner out of Columbus.

As of right now, the Blue Jackets are sitting in 14th in the Eastern Conference and while it is still relatively early. If things don't change, they could be facing a tough climb to the playoffs by the time the calendar flips.

Pagnotta also revealed that there were teams that inquired about Jenner last season. However, the Blue Jackets decided to keep him. But could they elect to trade him this season? Well, there is a chance, but it seems unlikely they would decide to trade their captain.
