When the Columbus Blue Jackets traded for Jack Roslovic on January 23rd, 2021, fans were pumped about bringing the Columbus product back home.
People wanted Roslovic to be a superstar player who could be the future of the franchise, but many fans were left disappointed by his lack of production. Roslovic had the best three seasons of his NHL career after he was traded, so was the disappointment warranted? In parts of four seasons, he played in 246 games and tallied 146 points. Inconsistency is the word that could be used to describe Roslovic's time in Columbus.
Two things were clear at this past season's trade deadline, 1. Roslovic was not going to be re-signed and was going to be traded, and 2. Jack Roslovic didn't want to be traded. On March 8th, Roslovic was indeed traded to the New York Rangers for a conditional 2026 fourth-round pick.
After the trade, Roslovic played in 19 regular season games for the Rangers, scoring 3 goals and adding 5 assists. He averaged 13:27 time on ice, not too shabby on a loaded Ranger team expected to be a heavy Stanley Cup favorite.
The New York Rangers have played five games in this year's playoffs and have gone 5-0, sweeping the Washington Capitals and beating the Carolina Hurricanes in game 1 of the second round. But the surprise is Jack Roslovic.
Rosco, through five games, is tied for third in points with 5. Jack has 2 goals and 5 points while chipping in 2 power-play goals. All this while averaging just 11:59 time on ice, which is 15th on the team. He also has a point in every playoff game so far this year as well. He has more points than guys like Artemi Panarin, Adam Fox, K'Andre Miller, and Jacob Trouba.
If Jack Roslovic can keep up this pace until the stars listed above get hot, they could cruise into the Cup final. The Rangers are a team that won't need him to score every game to win, but if he can stay on the score sheet, Ranger fans could be in for a ride.
This is the Jack Roslovic that both Winnipeg Jets fans and Columbus Blue Jacket fans wanted to see. In 20 career playoff games with the Jets, he only had 5 points, so he's definitely having a career playoff run.
But can he keep it up?
