Cole Sillinger traded goals with Matt Boldy in the first two periods, with each player scoring twice. Sillinger would then score again in the third to net his hat-trick with a tad over five minutes left in the game, but it still wasn't enough for the Blue Jackets to win.
Late in the third period, Marc-Andre Fleury was racing to the bench for the extra attacker when Jackets forward Justin Danforth came streaking into the Wild defensive zone to attempt an empty netter. Fleury turned around and made a bee-line for his net to try to stop the Danforth shot. Maybe Danforth's concentration was broken when he saw Fleury and rushed his shot, but his shot missed wide. The Wild then went right down the ice and Marcus Johansson put a very weak backhand shot on Jackets goalie Daniil Tarasov that trickled through and into the net to tie the game. That was a backbreaker, and although it was tied, the entire arena knew what was coming next.
Rookie Marco Rossi took a slapper just to the left of Tarasov and beat the Jackets goalie with ease. The Wild would win 4-3 in OT as the Jackets would fail to hold another third-period lead.
