    The preseason is over

    1st Period

There was no scoring from either team in the first. The Jackets could only muster four shots, while The Caps had nine. The Caps ended the period on a powerplay that would carry over into the second. 0-0 at the end of 1.

    2nd Period

Boone Jenner got the scoring started 4:57 into the second. Jenner, Alex Texier, and Emil Bemstrom broke out on a 3-2 and played tik-tac-toe as they were coming in on Darcy Kuemper. Jenner wristed one past the Caps goalie for the lead.

A little over a minute after Jenner's goal, Caps defenseman John Carlson scored on Elvis Merzlikins. The Slapper was assisted by Dowd and Sandin. 10:34 into the first, Alex Ovechkin was credited with a goal that was assisted by Johansen and Oshie. There were some fireworks, when the Capitals TJ Oshie took a run at rookie Adam Fantilli. Fantilli was fine after the hit from Oshie. 2-1 Caps after 2.

The game was 2-1 Caps after 2 periods

    3rd Period

The Blue Jackets would tie the game a little over six minutes into the 3rd when Cole Sillinger wristed one past Kuemper, the goal was assisted by Patrik Laine. The Jackets would kill a 5-3 powerplay to help keep the game tied. Adam Fantilli scored 16 minutes into the third, assisted by Marchenko and Damon Severson. The Fantilli goal was in fact "sneaky" as the Caps announcers said. That gave the CBJ the lead at 3-2. Finally, with the goalie pulled and about a minute left, Patrik Laine sent one into the empty net to ice the game. The CBJ win 4-2.
