Jet Greaves and Denton Mateychuk suited up for Canada in game one of the IIHF World Championships.

Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Jet Greaves got the start for Canada in game one of the 2026 World Championships. The game was held at BCF Arena in Fribourg, Switzerland.

Greaves played well at times in his first game. After having a goal called back early in the first period, Greaves continued to play well for the rest of the period. The Swedes came back hard against the Canadians in the second period and tied the game at 2 with nine minutes left. The two goals from Sweden should've been saved by Greaves, who had been making some very big saves to this point.

Greaves would give up a third goal in the period when Sweden tied the game at three. The second period was not good for the young goalie, but he would rebound in the third to pick up the win for Canada.

Greaves made 22 saves.

Sidney Crosby retrieved the game puck to give it to Greaves for earning his first international win for Team Canada.

Denton Mateychuk got on the stat sheet when he took a tripping penalty in the first period, but that's all he could contribute. Mateychuk played a total of 6:11 and didn't get a shift in the third period.

Canada's next game will be tomorrow against Italy at BCF Arena at 10:20 AM.

Next Up For Columbus: The NHL Draft is on June 26 and 27 in Buffalo, where the CBJ will own pick #14.
