The Columbus Blue Jackets and the Detroit Red Wings facing off tonight and the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline only 9 days away, it’s a good time to revisit the trade history between the two clubs.

In total, there have been two trades, but none since 2000, the Blue Jackets’expansion year. Their first trade came on June 25, 2000, and the only one came two months later on August 17, 2000.

It is safe to say that the lack of business between these two teams may indicate a less-than-ideal relationship.

Here’s a breakdown of their trade history:

June 25, 2000:

Blue Jackets Received: 2000 9th round pick (#292-Louis Mandeville)

Red Wings Received: 2002 9th round pick (#262-Christian Soderstrom)

August 17, 2000:

Blue Jackets Received: Kent McDonell

Red Wings Received: future considerations (2003 6th round pick (#170-Andreas Sundin))

From a Blue Jackets standpoint, they came out as winners of both deals. However, neither deal was truly a needle mover given no big name players were involved. It is hard to imagine these two teams working out a deal anytime soon, since it has been 25 years since the last trade. But stranger things have happened, so maybe this will finally be the year they make a trade with one another.
