Massive Third Period Collapse Leads To An Ugly Loss For Columbus Against Arizona
Boone Jenner(22) and Zach Werenski(6) scored, and Elvis Merzlikins stopped 29 shots in a game that ended up being a blowout.
The game went back and forth through two periods, and then the third period happened. The dreaded third period showed its ugly face again for Columbus. The Coyotes outshot the Jackets 24-10 in the second and third periods and outscored them 4-0 in the third to run away with it.
The only positive to take from this game is that the power play did well until it didn't. They gave a pair of short-handed goals late in the third to put the game out of reach.
Josh Doan, who made his NHL debut on Tuesday night, scored two goals for Arizona to lead the way for the Yotes. For Columbus, James Malatesta led the team with 8 hits and got into a fight to lead the way physically for the Jackets.
Boone Jenner, Johnny Gaudreau, and Zach Werenski had two points each for the Blue Jackets in the loss. Elvis Merzlikins played well through two periods until he started getting shelled by Arizona.
The Blue Jackets are now 0-4 through four games on a five-game road trip. They've also dropped five straight overall and eight of nine.
Columbus is now six points clear of Ottawa for fourth fourth-worst in the league.
