New Blue Jackets Head Coach Dean Evason Introduced To Columbus Media

New CBJ Head Coach Dean Evason was introduced to the media today.

He spent 30 minutes or so answering questions about himself, his past experiences, and what's to come with Columbus.

You can watch the full interview below.

Here's a quick look at some of his quotes from today's presser.

  • On his expectations: "When we go into a building or teams come in here, they know that if they don't work hard, they lose. Simple as that. Our hockey club will work hard each and every night."
  • "I look forward to bringing that passion, that desire, that drive, to the Columbus Blue Jackets."
  • "The foundation is set here. It just needs to be built open."
  • "If you talk to anyone around the National Hockey League or probably anyone in this room, they talk about what an incredible city this is."
  • "Our team will play with great detail, with great structure, but we’ll also give them the opportunity to be creative in the offensive zone and through the neutral zone."
  • "I don’t know exactly what we have in that room, but I do know from the outside looking in, it's fantastic on paper. It's my job and the coaches' job to get the best out of them."
  • On facing his former Wild team in the first game: “I hate when ex-coaches go into a game and say, ‘It means nothing.’ That’s bull! Of course, it means something, they just fired you!’”
  • On Don Waddell: "One thing that struck me immediately was his communication and honesty, his straightforward attitude."

One thing that can be taken from Evason's presser is his sense of humor. Cracking jokes is something that I can appreciate, as do most people.

Evason has been described as both a player's coach and a disciplinarian as well. Having younger kids on the team as well as some veterans, it feels like Evason is going to fit in perfectly with this group of players.

Welcome to Columbus Dean Evason.
