Columbus Blue Jacket fans are going through a bit of stress when it comes to being able to watch games for the fast-approaching season, but there may be another way to watch the NHL on TV in 2023-24.
Warner Brothers Discovery, who owns the “Max” streaming service, will temporarily offer sports on the platform with no additional fee for their subscribers. Per a report from Bloomberg, WBD will wait until next year to begin charging for sports, most likely right around March Madness, which WB holds the media rights for. The report states that they will be offering it for free right around the time the NHL and NBA are starting their seasons, hoping it will lure in new customers. Warner Bros. holds media rights to the NBA, MLB, and the NHL, which airs on TNT.
So, if you like to watch hockey in general when the Blue Jackets are not on, and you have Max, it seems like you’ll be in luck for a few months. With the constant battles between cable companies and networks like ESPN, it gets tough to watch sports nowadays, so this may help. Commercial free Max will run you $16 a month, and as of now there isn’t an indication of how much extra getting their sports package will be, but it could be a good investment if you don’t have access to ESPN+ or cable. The report also doesn’t indicate how many games a night it will show for any of the sports.
Hopefully, this gives NHL fans another outlet to watch the upcoming season.
