The 45 year old Finn looks to come in and help the Jackets goaltending situation.
According to a source, Former Minnesota Wild and Calgary Flames goalie Niklas Bäckström is rumored to be the next goaltender coach for the CBJ.
The 45 year old Helsinki Native, played 10 seasons in the NHL, with a record of 196-144-50. Bäckström played nine seasons with the Wild, and one with the Flames, however only playing in four games.
After the NHL, he returned to Europe, playing in Liiga for HIFK, and Tappara.
If this hire comes to fruition, I think it's an excellent move. GM Jarmo Kekalainen hiring a fellow Finn is not surprising, but hiring Niklas Bäckström was in my view. I had heard other names, but not Bäckström.
