On This Date In 2016: David Legwand Scores On Joonas Korpisalo From The Moon

Joonas Korpisalo is beloved in Columbus, Ohio. The 29-year-old Finnish kid from Pori, Finland came to Columbus and served proudly for 8 seasons. In those 8 seasons for Columbus, he mustered a record of 87-78-24. Most of the time he was backing up Sergei Bobrovsky or Elvis Merzlikins.

Korpi, as he's affectionately referred to, is well-known around these parts for a few legendary games. In 2020, he recorded the Blue Jacket's first post-season shutout against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the play-in round. He's also famous for his 85-save performance against the Tampa Bay Lightning in game 1 of the first round of the 2020 playoffs. He helped Anton Forsberg win the 2016 Calder Cup in the AHL as well. He's a legend in Columbus.

But on the other end of the spectrum, he's also known for one of the most famous flubs in CBJ history, and David Legwand helped him get there. I'll let the video below show you what happened. Though it's funny 8 years later, being in that arena as I was during that game, it was not funny then. To be fair it wasn't 100% Korpi's fault as that puck took a crazy bounce, but it was a bad goal nonetheless.

Happy anniversary to Joonas Korpisalo and David Legwand for one of the most unfortunate plays in Nationwide Arena history.
