In my previous article, I looked at how the Columbus Blue Jackets could target a few goaltenders to help overhaul their crease ahead of the 2025-26 NHL season.

Now, it’s time to focus on the trade market and look at a few goaltending options they could target to improve the position.

First, we need to look at teams that might be willing to move a goalie this summer. Some names to watch include:

  • Stuart Skinner – Edmonton Oilers
  • John Gibson – Anaheim Ducks
  • Joonas Korpisalo – Boston Bruins

There have been some reports that the Bruins could consider parting with Jeremy Swayman as they enter a bit of a retool. That would obviously be a big swing for Columbus, but unless the Blue Jackets are willing to trade a major package for him, it’s unlikely. Instead, they could pivot to someone like Korpisalo, who might be a solid tandem fit with Jet Greaves.

Things don’t look great in Edmonton for Skinner right now, and this could be a spot where both sides benefit from a swap — maybe something like Skinner for Elvis Merzlikins. A change of scenery could work well for both.

Lastly, Gibson has been in trade rumours for years now. While nothing has materialized yet, Blue Jackets GM Don Waddell did have interest in him when he was with Carolina. If Pat Verbeek is willing to bring the price down, Gibson should be near the top of Columbus’ target list.
