Columbus Blue Jackets Director of Player Development Rick Nash was named General Manager of Team Canada yesterday. He will serve as the GM for the upcoming 2024 IIHF World Championships being held in Czechia from May 10-26.
Nash had served as special assistant to the general manager for the Blue Jackets from 2019-21 and was also Canada’s assistant general manager at the 2022 IIHF World Championships.
It's speculated that Rick Nash may have an interest in being the GM for the newly GM-less Blue Jackets. Many also believe he was being groomed for the last 5 years for such a position. John Davidson however, made it sound as though they are leaning towards an outside candidate for now. With Nash being named GM for Team Canada, this is just another step for him in the front office ladder. He's still young at 39 and has plenty of time to get the experience he needs to lead his beloved Blue Jackets.
Might we see General Manager Rick Nash leading the Columbus Blue Jackets in a few years? It sure looks like it if that's what he wants.
What's Next - The Blue Jackets travel to Colorado to take on the Avalanche on Friday.
