    Should Columbus Trade Boone Jenner?

    Should Columbus Trade Boone Jenner?

Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports - Should Columbus Trade Boone Jenner?

It seems like everybody talks about the Columbus Blue Jackets these days, but you know what they say, "All publicity is good publicity."

Aside from the on-ice woes and front-office changes, Boone Jenner has been a major topic of discussion. Should the Jackets trade their Captain or shouldn't they?

President of Hockey Ops and acting General Manager John Davidson went on Sportsnet 590 and said the following when asked about whether or not there was a trade market for Jenner, "We get a lot of calls on Boone, but Boone's not going anywhere, and Boone doesn't want to go anywhere!" He went on to say that Jenner told The Athletic that he didn't want to be traded. Jenner told Aaron Portzline “I want to be a part of that and what we can become on the other side. We have a lot of work to be done. We have a long way to go, I know that, but we can get there. And I want to be part of that.”

Jenner holds a few records for the Jackets including most seasons played and most games played, and is beloved by his teammates and fans. But would the Jackets dare trade him?

Surely he has a market as some playoff-bound team would overpay I'm sure.

Listening to the Staff & Graph Podcast, Rachel Doerrie & Mike Stephens made a few good points on the pros of trading Boone Jenner. He could very well get back the haul that Rachel mentions below, and teams could be lining up for his services. But could they get back players and picks to add to the already-stacked prospect pool?

John Davidson made it sound like they get calls all the time about Boone Jenner, and it wouldn't surprise me if that were true. The way John Davidson made it sound in his radio interview though, he has no plans on trading Jenner.

The podcast also makes a good point about John Davidson and should he be the one making trades at all? Doerrie makes a good point about Davidson having never been a General Manager and thus has never made any trades or signings as a GM. There's no doubt he's had input on moves and signings, but as far as negotiating, probably not.

This could be the time for Asst. General Manager Josh Flynn to show what he can do. He's been with the organization since 2008, and when it comes to learning about the inner workings of trades, he most likely (hopefully) learned from one of the best, and that was former GM Jarmo Kekalainen. There's no disputing that Jarmo was elite when it came to trades.

So, should the Columbus Blue Jackets trade Boone Jenner?

What's Next - The Blue Jackets travel to San Jose to play the Sharks on Saturday night.
