The Blue Jackets Have Chose To Keep Their Second Round Pick Instead Of Sending It To The Philadelphia Flyers

The Columbus Blue Jackets had to make a choice at the end of the first round last night. That choice was to either keep the number 36 pick in this year's draft and send the 2025 second-round pick to the Philadelphia Flyers. Or send this year's second-round pick to the Flyers so that the Jackets would have the 2025 second-round pick.

After the end of the first round, GM Don Waddell told the media that he was keeping this year's pick, and instead would send next year's second-round pick to Philly.

Most people thought that this was a no-brainer for Waddell. After all, he's trying to build a team and needs all the picks he can get.

Waddell also told Jackets team reporter Jeff Svoboda that the Blue Jackets would have traded back had Cayden Lindstrom not been available with the No. 4 pick, saying "We had a deal we would have taken if Cayden wasn't available."

The post below from Pierre LeBrun sounds like they could've made things very interesting. It seems like the Blackhawks really wanted to get Demidov or Lindstrom, and were willing to sacrifice next year's first to do it. Smart move by the Blue Jackets for passing on this one.

It sounds like the Blue Jackets were team Lindstrom the entire time.
