The Bruins, Led By A Natural Hat-Trick From Brad Marchand, Crank Up The Talent In The Third Period To Down The Jackets
The first period of this game went by lightning fast. The action was back and forth the entire period and ended scoreless. The Jackets gave up two power plays to Boston but the excellent CBJ PK killed them both off. Spencer Martin made seven saves, with three coming on the penalty kill. The Jackets had some good offensive zone time but couldn't convert any of their chances. Martin made several huge saves to keep the Bruins off the board. The Jackets had 12 blocks, 6 hits, and 8 shots in the first period.
Boston came out in the second period throwing the body and controlling play for the first few minutes before the CBJ could slow it down and start possessing the puck. Seven minutes into the second the Jackets would get their first power play that was promptly killed by the Bruins. Columbus was able to get two shots on the power play. Later in the period, with just 36 seconds left, Boone Jenner would score his team-leading 13th goal when he cleaned up a mess in front of Swayman. Werenski sent a puck in that was snagged by Olivier, who either passed it or shot it, either way, it ended up on Jenner's stick, who slammed it home to make it 1-0.
Just under two minutes into the third period, Brad Marchand would tie the game at one with a one-timer that beat Martin. The shot seemed to have confused him a bit. Five minutes in, the CBJ were called for a very questionable tripping penalty on Dmitri Voronkov. The Bruins wasted no time scoring, putting the Bruins up 2-1 on a Brad Marchand shot. A few minutes after that, the Bruins were given another power play. Brad Marchand would score his third of the night, a natural hat trick to make it 3-1.
Brad Marchand had a six-minute span where he terrorized the Jackets, and he single-handedly helped the Bruins win 3-1
