The USHL president and commissioner, Glenn Hefferan, has officially announced an award in honor of the late Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau.

The award will be called The Gaudreau Award. It will be given to the player(s) who best embody the legacy of both Johnny and Matthew.

The player who wins the award will be someone known for their volunteer work, mentorship, and fan engagement.

Each team will nominate a player from their roster for the award. After that, the league will narrow the finalists down to three candidates. The coaches and teams will then cast one vote each, and the player with the most votes will win the Gaudreau Award.

Both Johnny and Matthew played in the USHL. Matthew was a part of the Omaha Lancers before joining his brother at Boston College.

The two were tragically killed in a drunk driving accident while riding their bikes together.

What a great honor from the USHL!
