On a recent episode of Spittin’ Chiclets, Columbus Blue Jackets forward James van Riemsdyk spoke openly about his interest in returning to the organization next season.

During the podcast, he was asked where he thinks he’ll end up next year, and he had this to say:

“I really enjoyed it in Columbus and felt it was a good fit for me there. So, that’d be something I’d be interested in, maybe going back there, but again, we’ll see what free agency in the summer brings.”

van Riemsdyk’s fit with the Blue Jackets is there. He’s a veteran forward who can help mentor a young center like Adam Fantilli. It would be smart for GM Don Waddell to re-sign him for another year.

In 71 games, he recorded 16 goals and 20 assists for 36 points at 36 years old. If he can keep up that production next season, he could end up being one of the best veteran minimum deals signed.
